World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading
Upgrades increase the value of certain numeric stats on weapons, armor and rings. Upgrades can also boost bonuses like Crit chance and damage from PvE.
If the weapon's upgrade template is in %, the weapon will gain an additional 3% of the previous damage for every time it is upgraded.
Item upgrading costs crests and the item's current level. The cost increases as the item level increases.
Components
Upgrade components are items that can be slotted into armor, weapons and trinkets to give a stat bonus or extra impact while they're being used. They can be obtained by crafting, buying from vendors trading, or looting. Certain upgrades also come with specific cosmetic effects.
Upgrade components can be inserted into any equipment that has a slot to accommodate them; the item must have been at a minimum upgraded to blue level to allow a component to be applied. Upgrade components, unlike other mods, can only be applied once. They are not able to be replaced or applied several times. Infusions and enrichments are a special kind of upgrade component used for non-amulet ascended and legendary equipment as well as the items that are not ascending back. Infusions and Enrichments can be obtained by salvaging ascended equipment or completing a quest in the Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall campaigns.
A prefix or suffix can be added to an upgrade, which alters the name of the item it's applied to (for instance, 'Canthan Armor Insignia,' becomes Canthan Armor Minor Vigor). Some upgrades increase the Mark Rarity or Level of an item, which lets players to create stronger versions using the smallest amount of Upgrade crystals than they would require to achieve the same level using standard methods.
A boost upgrade can alter the attack or defence attributes of a weapon, or armor. After the player has completed the cutscene and defeated Crazed Mechanist the upgrades can be crafted at the Portative Forging Station. They can be dropped by enemies while upgrading other gear or by buying them in the cash shop for 500 upgrade crystals each.
upgrade item can get up to five boost upgrades at a time; each upgrade increases the probability that a higher-level version of the item will appear in the next reset. If a boost upgrade is successful or not, the process can be costly and there is a significant chance that the item could be obsolete or even break when it fails. A unsuccessful upgrade could destroy the Upgrade Crystals and Assist Powder, as well as the upgraded item. Cash shop items can be used to minimize or eliminate the possibility of failure. Glyphs

The value of each Glyph is displayed when you select it in your inventory. You can decide to replace it with a different Glyph of the same rank, or a higher rank, which will boost the overall value of the glyph.
Glyphs are available in the Black Lion Trading Post as part of the Gem Store bundle or purchase the glyphs with certain tools that allow unlimited use and also during Faction Crypt Raids. Each Faction Crypt has a chance to drop one of the many Glyphs and there are also a few rare Glyphs that can be found in the form of drops from any of the four Faction Crypts.
Once you have obtained the desired Glyphs you'll need them to be placed on your equipment. Each Glyph will grant a distinct bonus that will boost the stats of a particular set of nodes that are within a radius of the Glyph. Depending on the Glyph it could be +40 to one of your primary stats, or +25 to two of your secondary stats.
Utilizing a Glyph will boost all the nodes that are linked to it, so it is recommended to position your Glyphs close to key nodes on the Graph to maximize the impact. Druids, for example, should place their Glyphs close to their primary damage nodes. They might be able to place them near their primary damage nodes.
Leveling
The upgrade system for items allows players to increase the effectiveness of certain items by inserting upgraded components. This is commonly known as "upping". These points can be used to level up the item. Once enough points are earned, the upgrade will be claimed and the additional bonuses will be added to the item.
When the player upgrade an item the original item will be replaced with a new item. This means that the same armor piece will become an weapon or shield once upgraded. The new item also comes with its own set of bonuses. This could be a drawback in that the item could be more expensive even if you don't need it.
If the player has enough tokens they can reroll item upgrades. The item will be replaced by the same item, but it has a base of level 1 and totally different bonuses. This is useful for certain items, but it's not something that should be repeated often, as it could waste a lot of resources.
Certain upgrades can increase their value, allowing players to customize their gear. One example is Dolphin's Gift, which gives an increase in power when a player is repeatedly in and out of the water (or is able to swim like dolphins). This item can be upgraded several times, increasing the maximum roll each time by 10 increments. This item is highly useful in PvP. A well-rolled version could be worth 50 times the value of its non-upgraded counterpart.
Requirements
The upgrader for items allows players to raise the level of their equipment (armor weapons, weapons, and trinkets) above ilvl 385 by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades to armor set pieces also increase its base defense and weapon upgrades items increase the damage they deal as well as the required strength and dexterity.
All items can be upgraded a maximum of five times, except for hero gear, which can have eight upgrades. Every when you upgrade an item, it has an opportunity to fail. The failure rate increases the farther you go beyond the maximum number of upgrades. Failures can result in the item reverting to its initial state, which requires the player to pay for more materials than if they had stopped upgrading after the maximum amount.
